Have you ever had the strong urge to crunch ice? You could be lacking iron in your body. Well, at least eating ice in abundance won’t harm you in any way. You do need to take heed though and acknowledge your body is lacking a vital nutrient.

Worse than craving something as innocuous as ice is when you crave foods which are bad for you. The result is you usually end up eating badly and ignoring that your diet is lacking in essential nutrients.

Cravings for certain foods is something all humans deal with on a regular basis and mostly it means our diet is lacking in vital vitamins and minerals. Well, it’s either that or you have been ogling too many cooking shows on television again.

The good news is you can shake the bad food cravings when they grip you by eating a more nutritious alternative. This will help take away the craving plus benefit your all-around health and wellness. Because once you begin to replace bad cravings with good food your nutritional needs will be taken care of.

Take a look at these common bad food cravings and their healthy alternatives, which will help you build better nutrition:

Chocolate – When you are gripped by a chocolate craving it’s very difficult to shake it off until you have binged on too much of it. Actually, your body could be lacking in Magnesium which can be found in healthy foods like almonds, pumpkin seeds, bananas, spinach and figs.

The healthy CWP (Cambridge Weight Plan) alternative is our range of delicious chocolate bars. They are available on the plan and will help you get over your bad chocolate craving when spinach just won’t do.

Sugary Foods– When you constantly crave sugar it could mean a few things. The one to take very seriously is your body may be low in blood sugar and if this persists, you should have it checked out because it can be a forewarning to diabetes. The other reason you may be craving sugar is your body could be lacking in nutrients such as Carbon, Chromium, Phosphorus, Sulphur or Tryptophan. By loading up on healthy foods like broccoli, chicken or sweet potato you will curb your craving for sugary foods. Eating more fruit can also help you get your sweet fix.

A healthy CWP tip is to try our range of delicious fruit smoothies.
They should help the craving pass.

Carbohydrates – This is probably the most common of cravings because piling our plates with bread and pasta and potatoes is a way of comfort eating. Unfortunately, these carbs aren’t allowed in the CPW Plan. Actually, when you are obsessing over bread and potatoes it usually means your body is craving the complete opposite which is protein. Eat things like beans, meat, nuts and eggs to help with this one, and soon your bad carb cravings will disappear.

All our CWP meals and snacks are high in protein, which means you won’t crave bad carbs. What a relief!
